\Another afternoon of our vacation was spent at the Mashes Sand Beach. We arrived as the tide was sweeping out, and the beach was mostly deserted. We had it all to ourselves, the weather was beautiful, the water was warm and shallow, the sand was a little too hot, and we had a blast.
It was another day for wildlife! There were many shells on the beach, but most could not be gathered... as they were inhabited! That's right, more crabs! This time they were hermit crabs!
And then, The Middle Child shouted "Hey! I just stepped on a horseshoe crab as big as my head!" We were a little skeptical but later he caught this little guy... so his story gained some credence.
Don't worry, we released him after some observation!
And we played in the water, and had a good time, in general... the more the tide went out the more the sandbars running out into the gulf were exposed.
But the big highlight of this beach day -- we spotted a dolphin hunting right out where, only a short time before, DH and the kids had been walking in the water.
More to come!
oh cool! And I just love the tiny horseshoe crab!
