Remembering Paradise

I was telling George over at Imaginerding that I saw some really fun stuff in an exhibit at the Florida Historic Capitol during our trip in July. We've been to the city of Tallahassee many times but never made it over to do the tour at the Capitol before -- it was a worthwhile stop!

During our visit we learned about Florida history long-past, and not-so-long-ago.

And we got to see this special exhibit

 

As the sign says - the exhibits highlights a variety of souvenirs of Florida -- some really fun and kitschy, some really bizarre, and some with Ears. (This was as close as we got to earning our ears this trip so it was a highlight for me!) So here are a few photos of highlights from the exhibit:

See that cover of Life Magazine? It reads "Disney World Opens" -- there are other WDW items in that display and some from Cape Kennedy.
While the kids worked tirelessly on their Scavenger Hunts (no there were no WDW viewmaster cards), I checked the rest of the displays....

Universal and Sea World Got their nod... as did Flipper, and Ripley's Believe It or Not - and a variety of other Florida attractions from Miami to the Panhandle, some historical, some current...

There was Disney swag in most of the cases, but this one was dedicated:

Most of the gear was recent, but there were a few older park maps, ticket stubs, and other assorted goodies to be seen. It was a fun display, really neat to explore cabinets with Conquistador Salt Shakers next to pictures of 50s belles decked out in their mermaid-y best. Not enough from the Space Center, IMO.
